Favorite Pics

These are my favorite two pictures from the 2007/2008 season. They weren't my best catches, but they were the nicest pictures I took. They were at the same set, and if my memory serves me right, it was my most productive land set too.
The second Raccoon I caught this season.

The first Opossum I caught this season.

The ASSHOLES have moved in

Well, the reason I haven't been posting pictures lately is because of the shit I've been dealing with in the woods. Haven't been catching anything, so that had me pissed. Then I go check my traps, only to find that some asshole made a set right next to me. The same asshole stole a raccoon out of one of my traps, and also ran over one of my traps. Today I checked my traps and pulled all but a few of them. I'm going to move to a new location now, and stay away from the roads. Hopefully I'll be able to stay away from all the thieves and low-lifes. Below is a picture of the trap that was run over and the raccoon that was stolen.

Oh, that's right, I guess you can't take pictures of raccoons that have been stolen, now can you!!!

PA Needs to let us trap Fishers

I live in Pennsylvania, and this is my first year trapping. So far I've only caught two Raccoons and a few Opossums, and today I caught a Fisher. Fishers were released in my area years ago. They are protected, and when one gets in your trap, it must be let go. These animals are beautiful and bring a nice buck at the fur auction. Some are worth $100 or better.

I've talked to a few trappers, and they all say there are enough of them to let us take a few. Guys are always releasing them, and one guy said he has released four already this season. I'm going to write a letter to our game commission asking them to consider opening Fisher to trapping. Even if they do with Fisher like they've done with Bobcat it would be nice. I wouldn't mind having a Fisher pelt for myself, and It would also be nice to put up some fur that's worth $100.
Don't get me wrong on this, I don't just want this so I can make money. I doubt if I will pay one quarter of the gas bill this year with my catch. But trapping is fun, and I'm gonna keep doing it. I have Opossum pelts to put up, so I'm not in it for the money. But if the Fisher is already filling our traps, it would be nice to take one home, and would make a nice addition to a collection of fur at the end of the season.

PA Trappers, Write The Game Commission and Let Them Know You Want to Trap Fishers!!!

Almost Ready

Well, I’m almost ready for the season. Not really. I have most of the equipment I need to do the actual trapping part of it, but that’s about it. I still need all the equipment to take care of the fur after I have caught it. I still need to prepare my traps, and build a shed. Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me.

Preparing the traps can wait for a later time, and getting my equipment to deal with the fur will have to wait until I can find some cash, but I do have plans to start building my shed. I’ll keep posting throughout the summer about what the situation is. I should have some pictures as things come together as well.

Can’t wait for the season to get here, I might be ready.
