I live in Pennsylvania, and this is my first year trapping. So far I've only caught two Raccoons and a few Opossums, and today I caught a Fisher. Fishers were released in my area years ago. They are protected, and when one gets in your trap, it must be let go. These animals are beautiful and bring a nice buck at the fur auction. Some are worth $100 or better.
I've talked to a few trappers, and they all say there are enough of them to let us take a few. Guys are always releasing them, and one guy said he has released four already this season. I'm going to write a letter to our game commission asking them to consider opening Fisher to trapping. Even if they do with Fisher like they've done with Bobcat it would be nice. I wouldn't mind having a Fisher pelt for myself, and It would also be nice to put up some fur that's worth $100.
Don't get me wrong on this, I don't just want this so I can make money. I doubt if I will pay one quarter of the gas bill this year with my catch. But trapping is fun, and I'm gonna keep doing it. I have Opossum pelts to put up, so I'm not in it for the money. But if the Fisher is already filling our traps, it would be nice to take one home, and would make a nice addition to a collection of fur at the end of the season.

PA Trappers, Write The Game Commission and Let Them Know You Want to Trap Fishers!!!
